PresEd

explore american presidential education

PresEd was created as an Information Architecture sprint, in which I focused on creating an experience to help people interface with data about our nation’s presidents. I chose a focus theme to narrow the search for data points for each president, and in choosing the education of US presidents as the basis for my research, I noticed that there were trends in the areas of focus and schools attended, as well as a diverse amount of education for each individual. These observations led me to create a mobile interface that allows users to discover the data collected in bite-sized profiles with options to search using a map, list of schools, and even through the direct comparison with another presidential profile.

PresEd’s branding scheme was designed with the goal of feeling both simple and approachable while retaining an element of the historic aesthetic. Dark blues and rust oranges lend homage to the flag while, typeface Freight, oval portrait frames and icons with added detail balance out the simpler interface elements. This project was one of my early attempts at doing data visualization of a larger scale using Figma, and it definitely taught me a lot about how the importance of clear and consistent representations of data and how when it comes to finding and displaying trends or correlation, consistency in your format is key.
